Week Eleven Wrap-Up

Well, sadly, the seasonal glass is now half empty.  We have played more games than we will play for the rest of the season.  The good news is that the excitement is on the rise.  There were two games in extra ends this week and at least two more that came down to the last shot.

Here’s how the week ended up with the following teams winning(* indicates my pick):

  • Arndt
  • Lawrence *
  • Sonnabend *
  • Rohde
  • Anderson
  • McGovern *
  • McLellan *
  • Dveris*

I forgot to check the sheet on my way out so I’m doing this from memory.  I’m missing winners for Arndt – Kruse, Dveris – Erickson, and Dubois – Anderson.  If anyone knows, please leave it in the comments or email me through the contact page – much appreciated.

Sean pointed out that, although I picked their rink, I also predicted an efficient win, which, in extra ends, was anything but.  McGovern came down to the last shot to save their win while Lichty took on two subs to fill the roster, but couldn’t muster the holiday victory.  A communication error by Lawrence led to one mis-uniformed player, but in defiance of my prediction, took the win anyway.  My forecast of egg nog fell short but was gladly replaced with cookies for all.

We now have a big group vying for 2nd and 3rd place.  Results will shift a little once the final scores come in, but as I’ve been saying for the last month, skill levels across the league are quite similar and it will lead to some great games in the weeks to come.

Merry Christmas all.

  1. From my memory the three matches you don’t have results for went to:

I hope everyone enjoys the week off.
    See you all in 2011.

  2. Oh, I should be of note that, I believe, for the first time in Metro League history brooms were stacked!

I’m not sure how many people noticed this but the Dubois-Anderson match stacked their brooms and went upstairs for a drink after the 4th or 5th end. This is a time honored curling tradition that just doesn’t happen nearly enough. Kudos to both Rinks for ensuring that great curling traditions will live on.

    Happy New Year

  3. I noticed that but had no idea what was going on. Is there a trigger for it, or is it just, “hey, let’s stack the brooms and have a drink”?
I’m all for it, as long as the Bonnie Spielers stay on time.

  4. Typically it is triggered by one rink having a big end, in this case I believe Anderson put up a 5 on Dubois and Dubois said “Stack’m, I need a drink”

And don’t forget to actually stack all the brooms in the house (typically in a radial layout) as a signal that you aren’t done playing… just enjoying a cold one

  5. I might be wrong, but I’m pretty sure McLellan actually won their game last week.

  6. Bob Lawrence says:

Happy New Year to all. Stay safe and see you all next year…Enjoy.

  7. Yes, Lang just informed me that McLellan DID win their last match, thanks for passing it along as well. A happy new year to all too.
